Summer Theme: Metamorphosis

Posted on Updated on

I just got the manual and glanced through it. I’ve just barely started thinking about summer, but wondered if anyone has any brilliant ideas for the summer or what kind of game or point system you’ll be using. Last year was the first year for teen summer reading here and it’s went ok, but I’d really like to make a splash and can use all the help you guys can give me.

thanks,

Internet users agreement for Teen Techs

Posted on Updated on

We are looking for an agreement for our teens to take to their parents to get permission about going onto the internet gaming sites. Does anyone have such a thing? We would like to make sure the parents are aware of what the teens are doing with Tech Club.

Young Adult Mtg

Posted on Updated on

I just had my first YA mtg of the year. They were so much fun! It was nice to see old and new faces. I now have younger siblings of original members attending so we call them the “next generation” They jumped all over the idea of writing a newsletter. (Got the idea from attending Youth Participation @ Your Library in April so Thanks Linda!) We’ll have book reviews, a comic strip, and a question and answer column. We also began planning a library lock in for Dec vacation. I have one teen attending Toddler Time tomorrow to read. I love working with this age group! See you all in Jan.

Library 2.0, Etc.

Posted on Updated on

Hello, I attended the Library 2.0 and Web 2.0 Overview yesterday at WLSC and it was so great. Most of you probably already knew all about Flickr, blogging, LibraryThing, RSS feeds and all those tools for online collaborations but it is all new to me. That is why I am now brave enough to get onto this blog.
Our library is getting ready to launch a new website with a teen presence. Kathleen, our children’s librarian is at WLSC right now creating a blog and a Wiki. This is so exciting. We will be getting a group of teens together next week to for a teen tech club who will decide how they want to celebrate Teen Tech Week. We will post the results of the meeting. I am finding that teens aren’t such computer “geeks” anymore as they are gaming “geeks.”
See you all at the Canterbury Library on January 18th. We are located on Rt. 14 in Canterbury on the right hand side if you’re coming from Willimantic and right behind the post office. MS

Lauri Moreno has started up a new Blog for her teen page. If you want to take a look go to www.coventrypl.org then click on the Teen Zone. There is a link on that page to the blog. She’s open for any suggestions on how to make it better.

Gaming in the Library Resources

The Library Success Wiki has a good page on Gaming in the library. I added the book that I mentioned at the meeting (in connection with writing YA grants) to the Gaming Resources page. I also added some other titles that looked interesting. Take a look! LW

The new Eastern Connecticut YA Roundtable met today, October 26, 2007 at the Willimantic Library Service Center.

The agenda for the day was to set some parameters for the new group.

We will be meeting every other month, beginning in January. The meetings will be held on the second Friday of the month at alternating times – 10am-noon on January 11, 2008, 1-3pm on March 14, 2008, 10am-noon on May 9, and so forth.
Libraries will volunteer to host the meetings, and the hosting library will provide refreshments. Canterbury Public Library will host the January meeting (snow date January 18).

Each meeting will have a predetermined topic for discussion or presentations. In anticipation of Teen Tech Week in March, the January topic will be Computers and Gaming.
