Faith Hektoen Award

Posted on

Here’s the email from Caitlin Augusta:

It is my duty and honor this year to chair the Faith Hektoen Award committee, an award given to an outstanding librarian, or a project in children’s services, which I take to include young adult service as well. We did not give this award last year, which makes it even more important that we give the award this year.

I *know each of us can think of a librarian/project in our area that deserves this, and career achievement does not mean the person *must be retiring; it can be any stage of a career. I really really would like to give the award this year, and with your help, we’ll choose an amazing recipient.

If you have someone in mind, please shoot me an email and I can send you the nomination form. (jrummel@otis.lioninc.org)

I changed a page around – UPCOMING MEETING took the place of meeting topics – which didn’t seem like it was getting used. Instead, I listed the dates and topics of our upcoming meetings until May. Take a look 🙂

Authors at Otis Library

Posted on

This week, we have two amazing authors coming to the library:

Morning with an Author: a library fundraiser featuring Sarah Strohmeyer

Spend the morning with Sarah Strohmeyer, author of eleven novels, including the Bubbles mystery series for which the Oxygen Network has purchased the television rights. Her novel, The Cinderella Pact, premiered as a 2010 Lifetime movie, and Penny Pinchers, her most recent novel, will be out in paperback this summer.

Enjoy bubbly, morning refreshments, and the chance to mingle with Sarah, who will discuss her writing, answer questions and read from her work. Books will be available for purchase and a book signing will conclude the morning. This fundraising event is perfect for book clubs and fans of women’s fiction.

Saturday May 22nd at 10 AM at Otis Library $10 tickets are available for purchase at the Otis Library Circulation Desk or at the door on the day of the event

*Books will also be available for purchase*

********************************

Marley Gibson (who also writes as Kate Harmon) will be joining us on Monday night, May 24th at 6:30 pm in the Community Room. She’ll be chatting about her ghost hunting experience and will have books and other goodies available for purchase after the event.

We’re super excited about these two lovely ladies joining us and we hope to see you there!

Workshop!

Posted on

I want to remind everyone (I mentioned it at the last ECYA Roundtable Meeting) about the WordPress Websites (description) workshop that will be held at WLSC on Thursday, November 20 from 9-4.

The description of the workshop reads, in part: “Looking for a simple way to have an attractive and useful web presence? One that is easy to maintain as well? Sound too good to be true? Come learn how it can be done with WordPress. WordPress is a content management system that lets you create and maintain a website without learning complex & expensive web development software. At the end of the workshop you’ll be able to update your WordPress website from any computer that has an internet connection.”

I think this will be an extremely useful workshop and… well if enough of you don’t sign up, it might get cancelled and I won’t get to go!!!

Registration opened up today. Sign up here: WordPress Websites Registration. ~ Linda Williams
