Mother/Daughter Book Club

Posted on Updated on

Hi All!

Our lovely Director, Priscilla suggested that I start a Mother/daughter book club. It would be more for tweens. Do any of you have any experience with this type of  book club? Any suggestions would be VERY helpful. Thanks!

That sounds like fun. I attempted one a few years ago, but it didn’t work out as well as I’d hoped. I would pick a very popular book for the kick-off book.

Are you going to focus on the just the book or will you do some sort of activity too?
    Will you have food?
I’m attempting a new club over dessert – which will most like end of being just cookies.

    Good Luck!

Food will definitely be a part of the book club. I’ve found, in my little experience, that food is a huge draw 🙂 Still thinking about how to go about it but thanks for the input!

We did a four session mother-daughter book discussion series a few years ago. I think the girls were about 5th-6th grade (ages 10-11). We used the CT Humanities Council series – they sent a leader and supplied all the books and promotional materials. Their fee is relatively inexpensive and well worth it.

    Hello!

This is Megan from the Saxton B. Library in Columbia. I run a pretty successful M/D book club for moms and daughters in 3-5 grade. We meet in August to choose books for the year (we meet May – Sept). I pull a variety of books and let the mothers and daughters each pick one. Each ‘pair’ takes turns running a meeting for the book they choose. At meetings we have a snack, usually something related to the book, talk about the book, and do some sort of related activity like a simple craft or a game. If you want more info or a list of books we have done you can call me at 860-228-0350 or email me at mquigley@columbiactlibrary.org. Good luck!

    Megan
